More than half students failed in BA programme of Gujarat University

Mar 21, 2014 12:16 IST

The fact that more than 50% students have failed in BA Programme in Gujarat University after the University declared results, shocked many students and parents. Out of total 34,000 students who gave exams, 52% have failed, while only 48% are through.

The Gujarat University officials informed that for the first time ever students in such large ratio have failed in the first semester.

The officials added that the failed students will be allowed to carry on with their second semester studies but the degree will be awarded only after they pass the exams of first semester by reappearing in them and clearing them.

The GU officials explained the reason why large number of students failed saying that teachers could not complete the syllabus in time due to introduction of the semester system, which is why freshers who had just entered college were unable to handle the pressure.

As per the officials, the semester in Gujarat University began in July and the examinations for the same semester started from November. The three months’ time was not enough to complete the studies and prepare for exams which is why many students had failed to clear their first semester.
