UPSC IAS Prelims General Studies Paper II (CSAT) Syllabus
Jagran Josh has observed previous year papers of IAS Preliminary Examination to deduce a paper pattern, and systematic observation of previous year papers of General Studies Paper II concluded that UPSC has favourable inclination towards Comprehension (Hindi or English language based on medium), Logical Reasoning, Analytical Ability, General Mental Ability, Data Interpretation and Decision Making questions. Whereas Government decided to remove English Language Comprehension from CSAT Paper in 2014.
Though, recent decision of UPSC making General Studies Paper II (CSAT) qualifying in nature has brought a full stop to cross-subsidization through CSAT in Civil Services Prelims Examination but it’s importance still prevails as any score below 33% in General Studies Paper II would automatically disqualify candidate from appearing in civil services mains examination. Now, candidates need to plan their strategy to clear prelims precariously so as to maintain the balance between General Studies Paper I and II.
Candidate should plan his systematic study for General Studies Paper II (CSAT) based on syllabus pattern and prioritize his preparation considering the paper pattern in recent years. UPSC has prioritized few topics in recent years where they especially focus on Reading Comprehension, Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability, General Mental Ability.
