Consumer Retail Inflation declined to 9.87 percent in December 2013

Consumer Retail inflation came down in December 2013 to 9.87percent as against 11.16 percent in November 2013.

Consumer Retail Inflation came down in December 2013 to 9.87percent as against 11.16 percent in November 2013.The data related to consumer inflation was released by the Central Statistics Office, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on13 January 2014.

imageThe drop was due to decline in the vegetables prices in December 2013. Vegetable prices on annual basis rose by 38.76 percent in December 2013. The increase was slower than 61.6 percent recorded in November 2013.

Overall food inflation came down to 12.16 percent in December 2013 from 14.72 percent in November 2013. But Core retail inflation rose marginally from 8 percent in November 2013 to 8.1 percent in December 2013.

Core Inflation is an inflation which excludes certain items that face volatile price movements like fuel and food products. In December 2013 the inflation rate for rural areas was 10.49 percent and in urban areas was 9.11 percent.
