The Cotton Advisory Board (CAB) in July 2011 estimated cotton consumption by textile mills to be 236 lakh bales during the cotton season 2010-11 (October 2010 to September 2011) against the earlier estimate of 258 lakh bales.


Export of cotton was estimated to be 65 lakh bales, and production 325 lakh bales. At the CAB meeting held in February 2011, cotton production for the 2010-11 season was estimated at 312 lakh bales. The closing stock for the current year is estimated to be 52.50 lakh bales against the earlier estimate of 27.50 lakh bales.
