The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on 9 July 2012 announced its decision to have ad hoc division in 30th Olympiad in London to resolve all legal disputes which may arise during the Olympics Games scheduled to be conducted from 25 July 2012 to 12 August 2012.
As per CAS rule, during the Olympics if any participants or sports person wants to submit a dispute to ad hoc division under terms of Rule 59 of the Olympic Charter. He or She must file a request with CAS court office in London.
The head of the board will be Judge Juan Torruella of Puerto Rico and Gunnar Werner of Sweden. There are also 12 judges included in the board. All 12 are lawyers or professors specialised in sports law or arbitration. They are Efraim Barak (from Israel), Michele Bernsaconi (Switzerland), Massimo Coccia (Italy), Ricardo de Buen Rodriguez (Mexico), Thomas Lee, (Malaysia), Stuart McInnes (UK), Graeme Mew (UK/Canada), Guédel Ndiaye (Senegal), Maidie Oliveau (USA), Sharad Rao, (Kenya), Martin Schimke, (Germany), Alan Sullivan (Australia).
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) functioned in the Olympics from 1996. It is an international arbitration board set up to settle disputes related to sports or arbitration.
