Delhi Police launched Whatsapp helpline to curb corruption, under which one can send audio or video clips if any cop seeks bribe or harasses a person.

Delhi Police on 10 August 2014 launched Whatsapp helpline to curb corruption. Under the facility, a person can just call and register the complaint and also send a recorded audio or video clips if any policeman harasses or a person demands bribe.

This new anti-corruption helpline that was started in 6 August 2014 is 9910641064. The Whatsapp helpline is in addition to the existing helpline numbers -- 1064 and 1800111064. This helpline is the brainchild of Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi who wants the force to be corruption free.

Anyone found guilty in this connection will be booked under Section 7 (public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration in respect of an official act) and Section 13 (criminal misconduct by a public servant) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and other sections under the Indian Penal Code.

The steps for punishment will be initiated after authenticity of the complaint (the video or audio) is established. To confirm the authenticity and genuineness of the complaint, the audio or video clip will be checked at the Forensic Science Laboratory.
