Singh replaces Shesh Paul Vaid, who was removed from the post and was appointed as the Transport Commissioner in the State’s General Administrative Department (GAD). Vaid, a 1986-batch IPS officer, was appointed as the Director General of Police in December 2016 and is due to retire in October 2019.

Note

The government order comes as a part of reshuffle of the top-level police officers in the state. Earlier, on September 4, 2018, Deputy Director General Abdul Gani Mir was replaced by Dr B Srinivas.

Some more orders regarding the reshuffle are likely to come, in which Arun Chaudhury is likely to be appointed as the Director General of Prisons and SJM Gilani as the Additional Director General of the Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police.

The transfer of officials comes a week after terrorists abducted 12 relatives of policemen in south Kashmir. They were all released unharmed, but only after the release of father of the terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.
