On 3rd May 2010, state governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of India to make a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for inter-linking rivers between the two states under the two projects.
The two proposed projects are:
- Damanganga- Pinjal project
- Par-Tapi-Narmada project
- The Benefits of the Projects
- Damanganga- Pinjal project will benefit Maharashtra while Par-Tapi-Narmada project will be advantageous for Gujarat.
- The above projects will help the arid region to get rid of the water problem.
- The agreement is likely to facilitate the irrigation of 17,500 million hectares of agricultural land in Gujarat. The detailed project report is expected to be ready by the year 2011.
The agreement is the result of the collective efforts of the Union government and the two state governments to start the process of preparing the Detailed Project Report on these water projects. The proposed projects between the states are two Inter Basin Water Transfer Links.
