Indian-American Sunil Sabharwal re-nominated as Alternate Executive Director at IMF by the US

US President Barack Obama re-nominated Sunil Sabharwal, an independent Indian-American investor, to a key administration post as Alternate Executive Director at the IMF.

Sunil Sabharwal, an independent Indian-American investor, was re-nominated as an Alternate Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by the United States (US) on 4 March 2015. He was re-nominated for the post by US President Barack Obama.

For the first time, he was nominated as an Alternate Executive Director at IMF in April 2014.


Sunil Sabharwal has served on many important positions since 1992. From 1992 to 1996, he worked at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as Principal Banker. From 1997 to 2003, he held several positions at GE Capital including Managing Director.

From 2011 to 2013, Sunil Sabharwal served as the Chairman of the Board of Ogone, a European ecommerce payment services company. He was Senior Vice President of Strategic Investments at First Data Corporation/Western Union from 2003 to 2006.

He was born to an Indian father and a Hungarian mother in New Delhi in 1964. He moved to Budapest, Hungary at the age of 9 after his parents separated from each other.
