The Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways has named double Olympic medalist shooter Manu Bhaker as its Brand Ambassador.
This announcement was made by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal during the 4th "Harnessing of the Nari Shakti for the Development of the Nation" event, held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on September 17, 2024, to honor women achievers.
Nari Shakti in Marine
Jointly organized by the Chennai Port Authority and the Kamarajar Port Authority, the 4th Harnessing of the Nari Shakti for the Development of the Nation was held at the Chennai Port's International Cruise Terminal in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Women achievers who have prior experience in the marine or are related to the field or other sectors were recognized for their contributions to the development of the nation.
Female Honoured During the Event
Along with Manu Bhaker the following women were honored at the ceremony: Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi, the first female skipper on the Indian crew of the INSV Tarini; Sonali Banerjee, the first female marine engineer in the history of Indian Mercantile Marine; Captain Teena Joey, General Manager, JM Baxi Group, Chennai Branch; Thulasimathi Murugesan, the silver medallist in singles badminton at the Paris Paralympics; Manisha Ramadass, the bronze medallist in singles badminton at the Paris Paralympics; and Rupali Raj Joshi, Surveyor, 1 STS Marine Components, Indian Registrar of Shipping.
How’s Manu Bhaker Related to Marine?
The relation of Manu Bhaker with the marine is by birth. She is the daughter of a Marine Engineer, born in in Jhajjar, Haryana. Union Minister for Public Works and Pensions Sarbananda Sonowal stated that this makes her the daughter of Marine.
He further said that, It is a moment of great pride for every Indian; and for every member of India's maritime sector. Manu Bhaker, a proud daughter of a marine sailor, has been officially appointed as the Ministry's Brand Ambassador, and she will now represent the Indian marine industry.’
