Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari to demit office today
Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari will demit his office on 10 August 2017 and Vice President elect M Venakiah Naidu will take the oath of the office on 11 August 2017.
Ansari, a former diplomat, was first elected to the post on 10 August 2007 and took charge on 11 August 2007. He was reelected for the second term on 7 August 2012 and took the charge on 11 August 2012.
Naidu, a former Union Minister, was elected as the Vice President on 5 August 2017.
Second National Deworming Day to cover 11 cr children
The second round of National Deworming Day (NDD) will be held on 10 August 2017 in 33 States and Union Territories to tackle worm Infections, targeting more than 11 crore children.
Health Ministry has said, a total of 7.8 crore children are targeted in private schools and 3.5 crores out of school children will be covered through Anganwadi workers and ASHAs.
This will be followed by mop-up activities a week later on 17 August during which 31 crore children will be targeted.
The National Deworming Day programme, NDD was launched in 2015. World Health Organisation estimates that 220 million children below 14 years in India are at risk of soil-transmitted helminthiasis infections.
UP government launches awareness drive along banks of river Ganga to maintain cleanliness
The Uttar Pradesh Government has launched an awareness drive in 25 districts situated on the banks of river Ganga for maintaining the cleanliness and ever-flowing nature of the river.
Above one lakh Homeguard volunteers will organise the public gathering and other awareness programmes in the district under Namami Gange Project till the 6 September 2017.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has flagged off the 'Namami Gange Jagriti Yatra’ for the purpose on 9 August 2017.
