The committee operates under the guidance of the Speaker/Chairman and reports its findings to them or to the House.
Functions of a Parliamentary Committee
- The committee system in parliament was established to create a focused space for discussing specific policy topics.
- Committees are operational throughout the year, thus allowing them to address issues more thoroughly than during regular parliament sessions.
- Discussions within committees are often more detailed and can take several months to complete.
- Parliamentary committees provide expert support when dealing with complex or serious matters.
- The main goal of these committees is to ensure the government remains accountable to parliament by examining issues more closely.
