Prof. Oommen Mathew, Former Kuttanad MLA and Chairperson of the Kerala State Farming Corporation died on 20 July 2013 at a hospital in Kochi. The 73 year old Mathew, was also the working Chairperson of the Kerala Congress-Jacob faction.
As a member of the 6th Kerala Legislative Assembly, he represented the Kuttanad Assembly constituency during 1980-82. He also served as the Chairman of the Kerala State Housing Board from 1982 to 1986 and the State President of the Karshaka Union.
