Railway Ministry data released on 8 October 2014 said that Railways' revenue earnings have gone up by over 12 percent during 1 April 2014 to 30 September 2014. According to the data, approximate earnings of railways was about 73404 crore rupees during this period as compared to 65526 crore rupees during the same period in 2013.
The total earnings from goods during the period was about 48772 crore rupees as against 44162 crore rupees during the same period of 2013, registering an increase of 10.44 per cent. The total approximate revenue earnings from passengers during this period was 21079.09 crore rupees as compared to 18099.80 crore rupees during the same period of 2013, registering an increase of 16.46 percent.
However the released data also shows that the total approximate number of passengers booked during this period was around 4253 million compared to 4255 million during the same period in 2013, showing a decrease of 0.06 per cent.
