For the first time Scientists grew sperms in a test-tube, which are capable of fertilising eggs. To achieve this, Scientists used stem cells from mice and cultured sperm in the laboratory. This Scientific breakthrough could help millions of infertile men to attain parenthood. The breakthrough is also likely to help those young boys who are left sterile because of treatment for cancer.

A team of Scientists led by Takehiko at Yokohama City University in Japan took slivers of testicular tissue from mice and added the right combination of proteins and other foods to trigger the production of sperm and nourish its growth. Afterwards, scientists used the sperms to fertilise eggs using IVF (Invitro Fertilisation) techniques resulting in the birth of 12 baby mice. The scientists showed that the technique is successful on tissue that was frozen. Scientists plan to test the technique on samples taken from men.
