Former Indian skipper and star batsman Sunil Gavaskar was formally inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame on 8 February 2012. Gavaskar is one of the first 55 members to have inducted into the Hall of Fame. The star Indian player joined a Hall of Fame that includes 72 male and female cricketers. Gavaskar received his commemorative cap from Kapil Dev, who is also a member of Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame recognises those cricket players who have made spectacular contribution to the cricket by their performance. It was launched in January 2009 in association with the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA) as part of the ICC’s Centenary Year.
Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and Bishan Singh Bedi are three Indian cricketers who have made it to the list of 72 great players in the long and illustrious history of world cricket. All three were inducted in the list in year 2009.
England with 25 members holds the top seed in the list followed by Australia and West Indies who have got 17 and 16 players respectively in the Hall of Fame list.
