The Union Government spent more than 1768 crore rupees in previous three years for its own promotion, revealed the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry. I&B Ministry revealed that the Directorate of Audio-Visual Publicity (DAVP) spent a total of 1768.55 crore Rupees in publicity as well as advertisements in magazines and newspapers as well as on television.
Most of the money was spent on newspaper advertisements with 375.31 crore Rupees from 2011 to 2012. Spending on newspaper advertisement in 2012 is 99 crore.
I&B minister declared that a total of 179 crore Rupees was spent on the audio-visual advertisements from 2011 to 2012. In 2012-2013 fiscal year, as of now, 13.95 crore Rupees has been incurred on this medium. Overall, 44.31 crore Rupees of amount was spent on the outdoor publicity during 2011-2012 and in 2012 this amount is 5.33 crore Rupees.
In context to the outstanding dues, I&B minister declared that DAVP had to make a payment of 9.84 crore Rupees to Doordarshan. Health Ministry, on the other hand had to pay 76.99 lakh Rupees to this national broadcaster.
The Rural Development Ministry had to pay 1.76 crore Rupees to Doordarshan and the Ministry of Labour And Employment owes 1.17 crore Rupees to the same. A total of 13.55 crore was outstanding amount to Doordarshan.
