23 June: UN Public Service Day
The United Nations General Assembly designated 23 June as the UN Public Service Day in its resolution. This day is celebrated across the world to celebrate the virtue as well as value of public service to the community.
Major points of UN Public Service Day
• This day highlights contribution of service to the public in process of development.
• UN Public Service Day recognises work and duties of public servants, while at the same time encouraging young people to pursue careers in public sector.
• On this day, United Nations Public Service Awards are being given away. First Awards Ceremony was held in the year 2003.
• In the year 2013, United Nations Public Service Forum, Day and Awards Ceremony will be held in Manama, Bahrain from 24 June 2013 to 27 June 2013.
