Chhattisgarh CM Orders Safety Audits of Hostels PGs and Schools After Delhi Building Collapse
After the Delhi Satya Niketan PG collapse killed seven people including a student from Chattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai ordered safety audits of hostels, PGs, coaching centres and schools. MCD continues its demolition drive across all Delhi zones.
The Tragic collapse of a paying guest accommodation in Delhi Satya Niketan area has shaken the whole nation. The building came down on September 6 and claimed seven lives. A 20 year old student from Chattisgarh Durg district was among those who lost their lives. Many other people were left injured in the incident. Days after this heartbreaking event Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stepped forward with a strong message. On Thursday September 10 he ordered officials to conduct immediate safety audits of hostels, paying guest accommodations, coaching centres, schools and large educational buildings across all districts. Safety of Students is the Government’s Top Priority
Sai addressed a high level review meeting through video conference from his official residence. The meeting included divisional commissioners, inspectors, general of police collectors, superintendents of police and other senior officials. The Chief Minister made it clear that the safety of students and citizens is the government's top priority. He said administrative responsibility is not limited to taking action after an incident. It is also the duty of the government to identify potential risks in advance and eliminate them. He directed district collectors and the superintendent of police to personally supervise the safety audit exercise. He also stressed that any safety lapses found during the inspections must be corrected within a fixed time frame.
Old Buildings Under Scanner and MCD Continue Its Drive
Sai also ordered inspections of old and dilapidated buildings in schools, libraries, hostels and other public places. Structures found in risky conditions or posing a threat to human life should be flagged for swift action. He emphasised the need for continuous monitoring instead of waiting for complaints or accidents. This is especially important for instructions attended by children and students. Meanwhile the Municipal Corporation of Delhi continued its demolition and enforcement drive against dangerous structures and unpermitted constructions. The drive covers all 12 zones of the national capital. In the past few days MCD teams have acted in areas like Vishwas Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Jamia Nagar, Shaheen Bagh, Tilak Nagar, Karam Pura, Karol Bagh, Ramesh Nagar, Mansarovar Garden, Chandni Chowk and Nehru Vihar. The enforcement drive is expected to continue in the coming days so that no risky structure is left unchecked.
