The fifth edition of Gomti Book Festival 2026 will be held at Lucknow university from September 12 to 20, 2026. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the event. The festival is being organised by the National Book Trust with the state government and Lucknow university. For readers, students and families this means a day of books, discussions and cultural programmes to be held all at one place with free entry for everyone. Scroll to get more details. 

Gomti Book Festival 2026 to Feature 250 Book Stalls and Many Languages 

This year the festival will have around 250 book stalls from 121 publishers. Visitors will find books in Hindi, English, Urdu, Awadhi and several other Indian languages. The collection will include novels, poetry, academic books and children’s titles. The aim is to make reading easier to access and to give regional languages a stronger place alongside mainstream literature.

The festival is also expected to help new writers and local literary groups reach more readers. Organisers want the event to build reading habits among young people and create a space where authors, publishers and readers can meet and interact in an open and welcoming setting. 

Discussions Cultural Events and Children’s Activities to Shape the Festival 

The programme will include talks on women’s identity, youth writing translation heritage science spirituality and modern journalism. These sessions will bring together writers, thinkers and audiences for direct conversations. Among those expected to take part are astronaut group Captain Shubanshu Shukla, Folk Singer Malini Awasthi, Author Shantanu Gupta and Padma Shri Awardee Vidya Vindu Singh. 

The festival will also host daily cultural performances such as Kathak, Folk music, theatre, Muhsaira and Dastangaoi. This part of the festival is designed to keep younger visitors engaged while also helping them enjoy books in a lively way. With books, performances and discussions under one roof the festival is set to become an active cultural space in Lucknow for nine days.
