IIT Kharagpur Placements 2020: 130 Jobs offered by 30 Companies on day one

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur conducted the placements for the 2020-21 academic session. According to reports IIT Kharagpur has bagged 276 Pre-placement Offers out of the 425 eight-week internship opportunities. The top companies recruiting at the IIT Kharagpur include Barclay, Goldman Sachs, Honeywell, Microsoft, MasterCard, Dr. Reddy, Tata Steel which have offered more than 10 PPOs each.
Close to 30 companies have participated on the first day of the placement drive which offered 130 placement offers to the final year students. Along with this the domestic firms, International Firms including TSMC, Sony-Japan, and Cohesity US have also offered jobs during the placement.
200 Companies participate
Over 2100 students registered for the 2020-21 academic session out of which 1300 are Undergraduate or Dual Degree students. Roughly 200 companies will be participating in the first phase of the placement drive at IIT Kharagpur. During the initial recruitment process approximately 25 to 27 percent of core companies, 65percent of software companies, and 10 percent of consulting companies opened up job prospects for the recruitment of the students.
Long-lasting relationship with companies a key
Chairperson of Career Development Centre - A Rajakumar while speaking about the placements stated that the main component of the success is the excellent technical skills of the students along with flexible online internship plans and a long-lasting relation with the company partners. He further stated that this is the highest number among all the other top academic institutes in India in the top MNCs in spite of the ongoing economic situation.
Excellent performance during internships
According to the official notification released, the performance of the students in the internship, and the subsequent turnover of PPOs have generated overwhelming interest in the companies to participate in the full time hiring process. It is an encouragement that the companies recognise the hard work, academic stuff, talent and motivation of the students during the internship programme. The institute further added that it is delighted that the top companies have once again administered their belief in the institution and its students.
