Jharkhand High Court: The Jharkhand High Court rejected the state government's request for a four-week extension, directing it to file a counter-affidavit by September 18, 2026, regarding petitions against cancelling 11th–13th JPSC, CDPO, and FSO recruitments. While maintaining interim stay protection for employees, the court clarified that fraudulent appointees face immediate termination.

Jharkhand High Court: The Jharkhand High Court rejected the plea of the state government for an extension period of four weeks for filing its defense in connection with the petitions relating to the cancellation of recruitments made in connection with the 11th to 13th JPSC Combined Civil Services Examinations, as well as CDPO and FSO positions. It was pointed out by Justice Deepak Roshan of the Single Judge Bench that the administration must file its counter affidavit strictly by September 18, 2026, and this shall be the date of the next hearing. It is noteworthy that the decision is related to the court’s ruling on August 20, 2026, on the stay order against the execution of the state's notifications canceling these recruitments.

As a result, the appointed persons have been granted the right to continue to serve in their respective positions until the case is sub-judice. However, it should be noted that the interim measure is a condition. The bench specifically said that the candidates found to have secured appointments through fraud and foul play during the process of investigation would immediately face consequences, including termination of service.

Jharkhand HC: Key Case Developments

  • Firm Deadline: A bench headed by Justice Deepak Roshan has refused the application of the state to get more time to file its counter affidavit, and allowed only a firm deadline of September 18, 2026.

  • Interim Reliefs Continued: The court has continued the previous interim relief provided on August 20, 2026 against the notification issued by the state government. Employees/candidates will continue to be in service pending the resolution of the matter.

  • Status of CID Inquiry: The state government stated before the court that the progress report on CID inquiry on the matter will be filed in sealed cover.

  • Condition of Protection: It is clearly stated by the High Court that interim protection does not provide any immunity to those who have got their job through any malpractice.
