According to the latest media reports, close to 13 students from an Engineering college in Pune, Maharashtra has tested positive for COVID-19. As per an official from MIT World Peace University, it has been confirmed that the students have tested positive for the virus.
Officials have stated that all the students who have tested positive for the virus are in the third year of their engineering programme and are asymptomatic and isolated at home currently.
Steps taken by Institution
MIT World Peace University Registrar Prashant Dave when speaking to the media stated that since the institution is following strict measures, students are being screened at the main gate of the institution. During the screening of the students, one of them was found to have a runny nose and was immediately sent back following which the parents of the student were asked to conduct an RT-PCR test.
After the student was reported, the institution also conducted an active contact tracing of the students as per COVID protocols and a total of 25 students were traced and tested for COVID. All the students were vaccinated.
Officials have stated that a group of 25 students including the index patient was part of a team preparing for a National level competition and working together on a project at the college workshop. All the close contacts were traced, isolated, and tested, and until now 13 students have tested positive while eight have tested negative and results of four or the students are awaited.
Officials have also stated that a close watch is being kept on the health of the students and the officials are also in touch with the families. Offline classes of the batch have been shifted to the online mode for now.
