School Holiday in Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy declared holiday for both government and private school students in Puducherry due to heavy rains in the region. CM announced the holiday for school students on 31st October 2019 through a tweet sent from his official twitter account. The tweet by Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy read “. "Due to heavy rain, the holiday is declared for all government schools and private schools in Puducherry region on 31.10.2019.”

IMD Predicts Heavy Rain

The decision to announce school holidays for private and government schools in the Puducherry comes in the wake of a prediction by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). As per IMD report, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Konkan and Goa and South Interior Karnataka for Thursday i.e. 31st October 2019. Puducherry has been receiving intermittent rains since early Wednesday. According to PWD report, Puducherry received 67 mm of rainfall for 24 hours ending Wednesday 8 AM.

Schools Closed in 6 Districts of Tamil Nadu

Yesterday, Tamil Nadu Government declared holiday for schools in 6 districts of the state following the IMD warning of heavy rains in next 48 hours. The TN districts where schools were shutdown due to heavy rains are Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Theni, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Vellore and Ramanathapuram.

Control Room Setup For Flood Relief

Puducherry administration has also setup flood relief control rooms throughout the region to meet any rain-related eventuality. The administration has opened control rooms for various key government departments i.e. Revenue, Local Administration, Health, Electricity, Public Works and the police. Late evening on Tuesday, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy held a meeting to assess the state administration’s preparedness to handle relief and rescue operations following flood-like situation in the state.
