The West Bengal Education Department has planned to introduce a book on social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. This book will be a part of the school syllabus in the state. The state School Syllabus Committee Chairman Avik Majumdar while speaking to the media representatives stated that it is the first time that the education department will be bringing out a book on a prominent personality of West Bengal.
Majumdar said that as the state is celebrating Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar's 200th birth anniversary, the department has decided to pay a tribute to him by bringing out a book, the book, he said will be a tribute to his contribution to the society, education and the improvement of lives. The book will contain a collection of essays and pictures.
The West Bengal state government has made it its prime focus to restore the image of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar among the people of the state especially after the bust of the Vidyasagar was destroyed at a college in Kolkata during a clash between the BJP and TMC workers.
Majumdar said that they want the book to be a part of the school syllabus so that the future generation in the state will be able to learn more about the contributions of Vidyasagar to society. He also added that the department wants the students from all the classes to read it. The decision regarding the book will be taken by the education minister of the state.
