In the wake of newly formed Central Gujarat University (CGU), 85 colleges which were previously affiliated to Gujarat University (GU) would be de-affiliated by GU and taken under the newly formed central university.
The newly formed university would be headquartered in Godhra and it would cover Panchmahals, Mahisagar, Dahod and Vadodara rural. The GU Vice-Chancellor M N Patel further stated that the 85 colleges that were affiliated till date by Gujarat University would be de-affiliated and transferred to the new CGU. The first year students who would enroll from this year onwards would be under CGU and those who have already been enrolled in these colleges would complete their courses under GU.
GU earlier had over 350 colleges under its jurisdiction which was a tough job to handle. After the de-affiliated of the 85 colleges and formation of the Gujarat Law Society University, the number of colleges now under GU has been reduced to 100. Earlier, the VC has suggested that all the colleges that are affiliated from other areas should be transferred to the respective university areas, which would help better the administration. The only colleges which are around Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar should be affiliate with GU. According to the VC, this might help carrying out a better and smooth functioning of the academic procedures in all the colleges around the state.
According to GU officials, after a long period there is de-affiliation of 100-odd colleges that is taking place. Previously there were hardly 10-15 colleges that got de-affiliated by the university.
