SSC conducts its graduate level examination with CGL exam every year and the selected candidates are posted in various ministries of Government of India under Group-B & C cadre. Now, here an interesting thing that everyone of you may want to know is, what will be the benefits, promotional aspects and living standards of an officer if he is selected as an Assistant in Ministry of External Affairs through the SSC CGL exam.
Place of Posting
It depends upon your choice whether you want to stay in New Delhi or want to get posted in foreign offices. Besides this, you can live your entire life in the regional passport office, if you are able to convince the authority.
Apart from the above fact, if you choose to work in abroad under MEA, then following places, salary & perks will be credited to you.
The Government offices in foreign countries are divided into five categories i.e. A+, A, B, C and Hard C.
In Super A category- It include cities like New York, Toronto, Washington DC, Wellington, Geneva etc.
In A Category- It include cities like London, Paris, Madrid, Mexico City, Tokyo, Berlin & etc.
In B Category- It incude offices in cities like chicago, Warshaw, Zurich, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Vienna,Munich,Melbourne,Sydney,Auckland,Stockholm, Moscow etc.
In C category- It include offices in cities like Thimpu, Kuwait, Manila, Bangkok, Hawana etc.
In Hard C Category- It include cities like Kabul, Damascus, Kandhar, Mazar-e-Sarif etc.
In abroad, you will get the elite class medical services for yourself and for the dependents in your family. Suppose, if you are at Singapore, then you will probably get Mount Elizabeth hospital.
There is a salary of Rs. 37000/- per month exclusive of 7th pay commission at the headquarter in New Delhi. It will transform to $1800-$2900 as a foreign Allowance + Current Basic salary + $400-$600 as other allowance at foreign postings.
There are basically the following order in which promotions are awarded.
- Assistant to Administrative officer in 5 years in case if you clear departmental exam otherwise 8 years.
- Administrative officer to under secretary in next 8 years.
- Under secretary to Deputy secretary in next 8 years.
- Deputy secretary to Director in next 6 years.
- Director to Joint secretary in next 4 years.
In small countries, the Director will be posted as “Consulate General of India” which is an Ambassador level post. When you become an Under Secretary, you will get the IFS cadre. Thereafter you can consider yourself as an IFS Officer. However, it happens in a very rare case depending upon your service and ability. As an IFS officer, you are entitled to keep a servant which can be hired from India or abroad and all your incurred expenses like air fare, medical expenditure will be levied on the Govt. of India.
Duration of posting
You will be posted in abroad for 3 years & 1.5-2 years in Hard C countries, thereafter you will return to headquarter or reposted to other foreign country if you want to opt it. You can take up to 1500 kg weight along with you in abroad including motorcycle, car, musical instruments & etc.
The Government of India will provide 3 BHK fully furnished flat comprising of all basic amenities like A.C., Soda, refrigerator, Bed, etc. and apart from that you are not required to buy all daily things. In case, if you are not provided the accommodation, then you will be staying at the 5 star Hotel in that country.
