On Thursday, the University of Mysore restricted the number of PhD students who can be registered by a guide.
The university clearly mentioned that qualifying the entrance examination does not confirm admission to PhD. However, it only makes them eligible to get admission in the PhD and the candidates have three years to get the admission.
These amendments to PhD regulation were approved by the council that states that the candidates who qualify the entrance examination are only eligible to get admission however it does not criteria to confirm a seat in PhD degree courses.
In September, the varsity will also conduct the entrance exam. For clearance, the amendment will be sent to the governor-chancellor. Amendments were recommended to agree with the UGC directives.
The vice-chancellor constituted a committee that had recommended the changes, which syndicate has approved in the meeting scheduled on 28 May 2013. The apex body of academic matter, the council has approved the changes under which the number of candidates enrolled in PhD degree through a guide were limited. Along side the total number of candidates working on UoM funded projects were also limited. Two students will be supervised by a single guide.
