In case of complaints against misappropriation of funds and wrongful fees collection from the parents of private school students, the Delhi Government has decided to approve the proposal of hiring Chartered Accountants to undergo audit of such schools. The decision regarding the approval was taken in a meeting of the Delhi cabinet headed by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The Delhi Government has been vocal against the malpractices and monopoly over by the private schools in the state. It has taken this recent step to pacify the distressed parents who complained of the fee hike in some of the private schools by as much as 20 to 55 percent. According to a senior government official, “As per the Delhi Cabinet’s decision, government will only hire the CAG-empaneled chartered accounts to get accounts of schools running on its land audited. The audit of the accounts will be done if government receives any complaint from the parents against a particular school.”
The Directorate of Education (DoE) in Delhi has already warned those private schools which are situated at the government land that they need to have prior sanction from the authorities in the directorate to have any such fee hike at point of time. The problem of arbitrary fee hike in such private schools was taken up to the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Education Minister Manish Sisodia by a delegation of parents. The Education Minister Manish Sisodia, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, had directed the DoE to take necessary action in this regard and said that the schools indulged in such abnormal fee hike should be identified a penalized soon.
