University of Delhi (DU) notified relaxation of 10% on minimum eligibility criteria for admission of OBC candidates to various undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The new norm will be applicable to the UG & PG admission process from the academic session 2012-13 along with few more upgradations.
The decision was taken in compliance of the judgment of the Honourable Supreme Court of India, in the Civil Appeal No. 7084 of 2011, arising out of SLP (C) No 27965/ 2010 in the matter of PV Indiresan vs. Union of India and Others.
The OBC students appearing in any of the entrance exam will be selected for their preferred programmes even after scoring 10% less than a general category candidate. Earlier, till 2011, 10% relaxation was given to OBC candidates only on the final cut off in accordance with the general category students.
Also in addition to the relaxation on minimum eligibility criteria, the OBC seats which remain vacant for some reasons will now be filled with OBC candidates only. Only if the OBC candidates possessing the minimum qualifying marks are not available, the seats will be given to General category candidates.
It was also re-iterated that the OBC candidates who belong to the Non-Creamy Layer and whose castes appear in the Central List of the OBCs will only be eligible to be considered for admission under OBC category following the above procedures.
