DRDO has signed an agreement with IIT-B and IIT-M for establishing Centre of Propulsion Technology (CoPT). The aim is to make advanced research in the fields of defence technologies.
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has signed an MoA with Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and Madras to establish bi-nodal ‘Centre of Propulsion Technology’ (CoPT) at the two institutions, in the presence of DG DRDO S Christopher, IIT Bombay Director Prof Devang Khakhar and IIT Madras Director Prof B Ramamurthi.
The Directors of the respective IITs have asserted of their support for the venture. According to the Director of IIT M Professor Christopher, “The construction of this centre will attract talent to the field.”
CoPT is envisaged to facilitate the mechanisms involved in propulsion technology. Both the IITs will be the primary research nodes for the purpose. In addition to this, CoPT will also undertake multidisciplinary research in futuristic aero engines, solid propellant combustion modeling and morphing aircraft technologies.
