Education

To become a pilot, the basic knowledge of the-physics, mathematics and chemistry is required. So, you, obviously, need to pursue science stream at least in your primary and senior secondary. And if you didn’t have Physics and Maths in your higher secondary, then you has option of studying these two subjects from National Institute of Open Schooling. After completing higher secondary, you can get enrolled in the pilot training courses through a set of entrance procedure that includes written test, medical examination, and interview.

Admission in Pilot Training

The admission in pilot training courses is conducted following the different set of admission procedure that includes written test, medical examination, and interviews. To join any flying school, you need to obtain at least 50 per cent marks in higher secondary examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths as your major subjects. If you didn’t have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as your subjects, then you can also study these subjects from National Institute of Open Schooling.

Written Examination

Completed your higher secondary examination! Now, you can appear in the entrance examination of any pilot training course or B.Sc. in Aviation. Before getting into preparation of the entrance exams, you need to know what subjects the questions in the entrance examination would be asked from. No Doubt! The questions of the entrance examination would obviously from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The entrance examination includes questions from general English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Reasoning.

Pilot Aptitude Test

In pilot aptitude test, you would be exposed to the questions from numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, spatial awareness, and mechanical reasoning. Through the set of question from these topics, the examiner would be able to assess your aptitude on Air Regulation, Air Navigation, Aviation Meteorology, and Aircraft and Engine knowledge. 

Personal Interview and DGCA Medical examination

The candidates who pass written examination and aptitude test are simply eligible and invited for the personal interview. But, before appearing in personal interview, the candidates need to come across and qualify the medical examination which is conducted by Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Government of India. The DGCA invites only those candidates for the medical examination who clear their written examination and aptitude test.

Students Pilot License

You would be eligible to access the flying training and take off the flights on gliders or small planes which are provided by different flying clubs of India. But, to avail this opportunity, you must have a license. To get a flying license, you would need to clear an examination which includes an oral test and is conducted under the supervision of Chief Instructor or DGCA representative.  To become a commercial pilot, you need to complete minimum 250 flying hours.

Age Limit to apply for license

To obtain flying license, you need to qualify age limit as well as written exam, aptitude test, and medical examination. The age limits to apply for flying license are as follows.

  • Student Pilot License is 16 years
  • Private Pilot License is 17 years
  • Commercial Pilot License is 18 years

Average salary

In India, the pilots earn from Rs. 300,000 to Rs. 800,000 per month as their salary. The salary of a pilot depends on their employer and their experience.
