Should You Freeze, Float, or Slide? Final Verdict
To make a decision whether you should choose slide, float or freeze for JoSAA round 2 seat allotment depends on your preferences.
-
You should choose Slide if your rank doesn’t align with the round 2 cutoff. The other reason can also be if you want to switch your branch from CSE to some other, like Electrical Engineering etc, if the seats are vacant during round 2 or later rounds.
-
You can choose Float if you are waiting for an institute upgrade from IIT Bombay to IIT Delhi or Madras while keeping IIT Bombay as a secured backup. However, IIT Bombay remains the top choice among engineering students.
-
And finally, choose Freeze, if you are sure of the branch and institute you get allotted during Round 2. You don’t want an upgrade or want to switch your branch and institute.
The decision is based on your final estimation and course requirement. The allotment to your preferred branch can be changed during the different rounds. The key is, if you want to explore the options, do not close the counseling process immediately. If you are not sure, you can keep your options open by choosing Float or Slide options.
