What is IBPS Full Form: Features & Details
IBPS is the examination conducting body. It conducts the examination for recruiting candidates in banks at different levels, such as officer, specialist officer clerks, etc. The journey of IBPS is closely associated with the major event of nationalisation of 14 major banks in 1969 and thereafter, the establishment of the National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM) as an apex level research and training institute for all public sector banks. Post-nationalisation, banks were required to rapidly expand their branch network to afford a larger cross-section of people the opportunity to avail of "banking services." In order to expand their network, banks needed to recruit. "Selecting the Right People for the Right Jobs" was a critical activity for them. Banks began advertising their vacancies and were flooded with applications, the volume of which far exceeded their capacity. In 1984, the PSS Unit of NIBM became a self-created independent institution- Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS).
