The premiere business management school, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has announced a steep rise in their fees for their flagship courses. The fee hike could range from Rs. 1.9 lakh to 2.5 lakh depending on the different courses offered by the institution. Courses which would see the hike in course fee are: Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), PGP-Agri Business Management (PGP-ABM) and PGP for Executive (PGPX). The new fee structure would be implemented from the next academic session of 2015-17.
The course fee for the courses PGP and PGP-ABM would increase from its existing Rs. 16.6 lakh to Rs. 18.5 lakh. The one year course PGPX course fee which is at this moment Rs. 21.5lakh would take up to Rs. 24 lakh. The hike in course fee came after a period of two years and IIM-A is the first among all the other IIMs to raise the fee after two years.
The IIM-A authority is also planning on introducing some changes in the existing programmes, admission rules and include innovative ideas for academic studies. As per the recommendations the course PGP-ABM is schedule do be renamed as PGP-FABM (Food and Agri Business Management) from the next session.
The Director of IIM-A, Ashish Nanda said, "To remain financially self-sufficient, the institute needs to raise its fees. For PGP and PGP-ABM programmes, the tuition fee hike is 10%, whereas our administration costs are high due to inflation. The cumulative fee hike for all three programmes is about 11%."
