Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann launched the ‘School of Eminence’ initiative aimed at providing quality education to underprivileged children. The programme started with 82,000 children, and now more than 2,00,000 students are enrolled in these schools.
The success of the ‘School of Eminence’ programme can be gauged from the fact that students are opting to leave private schools to enroll in these institutions. The primary reason for this shift is the quality of education provided at the School of Eminence. In the previous academic year, 158 students from these schools qualified for the JEE Main. Currently, there are 118 Schools of Excellence operating in the state.
School of Eminence features
- Smart Classrooms
- Laboratories
- Emphasis on physical development along with academics
- Sports infrastructure
- Comprehensive wellness programmes
- Tennis courts
CM Mann has stated that the government’s objective is to enhance the quality of education. This improvement aims to enable students to become successful engineers and doctors, as well as to foster good scientific and self-employment opportunities.
