The UP Board set up in the year 1921 at Allahabad by an act of United Provinces Legislative Council conducts board exams for both class 10 and 12 students. It conducted its first examination in 1923. The UP Board was the first in India to have adopted the 10+2 system of examination since the very beginning.
Since 1921 UP board has been doing its job very well. Every year the UP Board examinations are conducted very successfully. The syllabus for the exam keeps being updated time to time and the examination, checking of copies, announcement of the results is also the part of their work. Earlier UP board used to announce the results on News Papers but for last some years the results are being announced on Internet. The students can access their results from the official website of the UP Board.
The first public examination after 10 years education is High School Examination and after the 10+2 stage, there is Intermediate Examination.
University of Allahabad was the examining body of these two examinations before 1923.
However it was noticed that the Board faced considerable difficulty in controlling and conducting its activities centrally from Allahabad. As such four Regional Offices of the Board were established at Meerut (1973), Varanasi (1978), Bareilly (1981) and Allahabad (1987) under the control of Regional Secretaries. The head office continues to remain at Allahabad.
At present there are 9121 secondary schools recognized by the UP Board of High School and Intermediate Education.
As Uttar Pradesh has a very high population, it is said that the UP Board is the biggest examining board present all over the world. The main function of the Uttar Pradesh Board is to grant recognition to schools in UP, decide syllabus and books for students and to conduct their exams and announce the results on time.
UP Board is currently preparing the results of nearly 32 lakh students who appeared for the 10th and 12th class examination in the month of March 2012.
The UP Board had conducted the 12th class examination from 1 March 2012. The UP Board 12th class examination for all streams was completed by 4 April and is expected to declare the results on 5 June 2012.
Last year in 2011, the overall pass percentage in the UP Board Intermediate (12th) Examination was nearly 80.14%. It was dipped by a marginal 0.40% as compared to 2010, when it was 80.54%. However in 2011, the resounding success of girls over the boys grabbed the attention again. The overall pass percentage for girls stood at 90.76 in comparison to 70.53 of boys, a difference of nearly 20.23%, which was quite appreciable. Hopefully this year too, the girls maintain the same record.
