Arif Ahsan has secured 74th Rank in UPSC Civil Services IAS Exam 2016 (CSE 2016). He is from Gaya district in Bihar and he has done B. tech from Jamia Millia Islamia. His father is a school teacher and his mother is a housemaker. He gives credit for his success to his parents. He had a passion to become an IAS officer since his school days where his teachers encouraged him to choose his career in the civil services. Later, during his Engineering degree from Jamia Millia Islamia where he finally took the decision to join the civil services so that he can serve large of people in the society.
In the beginning of IAS preparation, he focused on self-study but later he joined the Centre for Coaching and Career Planning run by Jamia Millia Islamia University New Delhi. The Centre for Coaching and Career Planning helped him a lot in his studies and guided well towards the success in the coveted IAS Exam in the country.

He mentioned in the video that an IAS aspirant needs to be very analytical while preparing for IAS Mains Exam because UPSC will test your analytical ability than your knowledge. He followed the integrated approach for IAS Prelims as well as for IAS Mains Exam preparation. He had Urdu Literature as an Optional Subject in IAS Mains Exam.
