The Union Sports Ministry issued a show cause notice to the Badminton Association of India (BAI) on 4 August 2010. The ministry sought an explanation on why BAI should not be de-recognised. BAI had not informed the government of its Annual General Meeting and Elections in advance. The president of BAI was accused of giving a distorted and misleading picture to the member units about the financial assistance from the government and private sponsors.
