The Union Ministry of Women & Child Development (MWCD) on 1 June 2017 clarified that the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme has no provision for individual cash transfer component.
The scheme focuses on challenging mindsets and deep rooted patriarchy in the Indian societal system, strict enforcement of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994 and advancing education of the girl child.
Its focus is on issues of women empowerment on a life cycle scale. It is not a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme.
The announcement came after Union Ministry of Women & Child Development noticed that certain unauthorized organizations, NGOs and individuals are distributing illegal forms in the name of cash incentive under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme.
The Ministry took this matter with the State Government Authorities where this illegal activity has taken place such as in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal.
The Ministry also advised that no personal details should be shared in this regard and no one should subscribe to such fraudulent scheme.
However, seeing that still some people are falling prey to such frauds and paying money or disclosing their personal details in name of such fake and fraudulent scheme, the Ministry decided to notify against such activities.
