The 46th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM) and the 26th meeting of the Environmental Protection Committee will be held in Kochi on 20-30 May. In this meeting, India will formally announce the establishment of a new research station in Antarctica. India has two active research stations in Antarctica – Maitri and Bharati.

Recently, the global governing body of wrestling, United World Wrestling (UWW) has suspended Indian star wrestler Bajrang Punia till the end of this year. Earlier, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) had provisionally suspended him after he refused to undergo doping test. However, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) has approved around Rs 9 lakh for Bajrang's training.

Sri Lanka has recently extended the deadline for visa-free entry for Indians once again. Under this initiative of Sri Lanka, citizens of India, China, Russia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia can travel to Sri Lanka for 30 days without visa. This scheme was launched in October with the aim of attracting more tourists.

The Indian Foreign Ministry has recently announced the withdrawal of Indian military personnel from Maldives. Indian military personnel were operating two helicopters and a Dornier aircraft to provide humanitarian and medical evacuation services in the Maldives. The Maldives government led by Mohammed Muizzu had formally requested India to withdraw its troops.
