Imprisoned Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been awarded the European Union's highest award for human rights-Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. The Russian political leader was nominated for the award along with Afghan women and Bolivian political leader Jeanine Áñez, who had served as the interim president of the nation in 2019 after alleged electoral fraud by Evo Morales.

India has been ranked at the 71st position in the Global Food Security Index (GFSI) 2021. India was ranked 71st out of 113 countries with a score of 57.2 points. The GFS Index 2021 is a global report that was released on October 19, 2021 by The Economist Impact and Corteva Agriscience.

3. (d) Ireland

Ireland has topped the Global Food Security Index (GFSI) 2021 with an overall score of 84.0, followed by Australia at second position with a score of 81.3 and the United Kingdom at the third position with a score of 81.0. Finland has been ranked fourth, Switzerland fifth and the Netherlands has been ranked 6th.

4. (a) Donald Trump

Former US President Donald Trump is planning to launch his own social media platform called 'TRUTH Social'. Trump said the social media group will form "a rival to the liberal media consortium."

5. (d) Japan

Mount Aso, located on the main Southern Island of Kyushu in Japan, began erupting on October 20, 2021, spewing volcanic ash upto 3,500 meters into the sky. The Meteorological Agency of Japan has raised the alert level for the volcano to 3 on a scale of 5 and has warned people of risk of large falling rocks and pyroclastic flows within a radius of about 1 km around the Mountain’s Nakadake Crater.

6. (b) Microsoft

Tech giant Microsoft launched a new initiative Microsoft AI Innovate on October 20, 2021 for nurturing and scaling startups that have been leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India.

7. (a) China 

China was the first country to achieve the milestone of administering over 100 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses. It had crossed the one billion COVID vaccination mark in June 2021 itself. 

8. (b) India 

India achieved the milestone of administering over 100 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses on October 21, 2021. The only other country to achieve the milestone of administering over a billion vaccine doses is China. It had crossed the mark of 100 crore doses in June 2021.
