The legendary former Australian batsman Dean Jones passed away on September 24, 2020, due to cardiac arrest. He was 59.

Star India in an official statement shared the news of Dean Jones’s demise and informed that he died because of the sudden heart attack. They also mentioned that they are in touch with the Australian High Commission to make the necessary arrangements.

Dean Jones was part of the Star Sports commentary team and was in a bio-secure bubble in a seven-star hotel in Mumbai. He was one of the greatest ambassadors of the game who associated himself with the development of cricket across South Asia.

Jones was passionate about nurturing young cricketers and discovering new talent. He was also a champion commentator whose presentation and presence of the cricket always bought joy for the millions of fans.

Dean Jones had become a household name by playing in an aggressive manner for the Australian side from 1980-1990.

He was selected on the 1984 West Indies tour after Graham Yallop had to pull out because of the surgery.

Dean Jones went on to score 48 in his debut and hailed it as his best knock as he fell ill before the match.

Before 1984 and 1992, he played 52 test matches for Australia, scoring 3,631 runs, including 11 centuries, at an average of 46.55.

Jones’s most notable innings was in only his 3rd test against India in the Tied Test in Chennai (Madras), which was in 1986.

He went on to score 210 runs and his innings of 210 runs remain the highest score by an Australian Cricketer in India.

He also played 164 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Australia, in which he managed to score 6,068 runs at an average of 44.61.
