The Delhi government informed the Delhi high court on 6 April 2011 its decision to take the help of a Japanese company for preparing the master plan to tackle the water crisis in the Capital. The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) mentioned to a bench of chief justice Dipak Misra and justice Reva Khetrapal that the officials of water body were in consultation with Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) for preparing the master plan. The plan will provide infrastructural facility in existing and new areas of the city in accordance with the Delhi Master Plan 2021.
The Delhi government also submitted that following acceptance of suggestion from Tokyo-based JICA, the DJB will start constructing underground reservoirs at various places to ensure adequate water supply in the region. The plan will also include an emphasis on increased usage of treated sewage water.
The master plan will also provide infrastructure in existing and new areas of the city in accordance with the Delhi Master Plan 2021. The court was also informed that Delhi government already paid Rs 200 crore to Himachal Pradesh and Rs 160 crore to Haryana so that the city gets sufficient water.
The bench of judges directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)to allot land for construction of the reservoir in Mohalla Gangaram and also asked DJB officials to visit the area and find a solution to curb misuse of water in the area.
