Tyre manufacturer Dunlop India Limited suspended its operation at Ambattur factory in Tamilnadu from 21 February 2012. The factory which produces rubber cited labour indiscipline as the reason behind the suspension of work.
497 workers were employed in the factory which produces rubber for Falcon Tyres of Mysore. The factory has the capacity of producing about 80 tonnes of rubber per day. During the period of suspension of work, the principle of 'No Work No Pay' shall be followed.
The Dunlop management and Dunlop Factory Employee’s Union had made an agreement in 30 July 2009 to solve pending issues when the factory was reopened in October.
As per the Long-Term Solution of the contentious issues, workers had agreed to bring down production cost to the minimum level, promote productivity, ensure all-round discipline and maximise capacity utilisation.
