Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands abdicated the throne in favour of her son Prince Willem-Alexander. She was the queen for the last 33 years. At present, she is 75 years old.
Willem-Alexander has now become Netherland’s first king since 1890. Queen Beatrix had announced her decision in January 2013 to step down stating that her son was ready to reign.
