EC Assigned Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to Probe Black Money Charges

The Central Board of Direct Taxes was assigned by the Election Commission to probe the black money charges against the Election campaigns in West Bengal..The allegation was against the use of black money that was being used by the Trinomool Congress party for campaign purposes in the West Bengal Assembly elections.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes was assigned by the Election Commission to probe the black money charges against the Election campaigns in West Bengal.The allegation was against the use of black money that was being used by the Trinomool Congress party for campaign purposes in the West Bengal Assembly elections. CBDT was given the responsibility to look into the sources of cash worth over Rs.1 crore that the Trinamool Congress had directly paid to two nationalised banks for drawing several drafts.


The Trinamool Congress was also alleged to have violated the Reserve Bank of India's guidelines as banks are not allowed to issue drafts through cash payment over the amount of Rs. 50,000.


EC assured that an inquiry by the RBI into the case is going on and both the Trinamool Congress party and the banks were asked to give an explanation about the allegations against them. CBDT is to take the next step in the probing procedure after receiving the report of the Reserve Bank of India's findings.
