The Feroz Shah Kotla ground in New Delhi on 23 November 2010 received the approval to be re-instated as an international venue from 1 January 2011. The stadium was suspended from being used s a ground for international cricket matches following a pitch fiasco by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The suspension order had come after an One-Day International between India and Sri Lanka was abandoned in December 2009. The Feroz Shah Kotla will host four matches during the ICC World Cup 2011.
The ground was named Feroz Shah Kotla as it was initially a fortress built by Sultan Ferozshah Tughlaq to house his version of Delhi city called Ferozabad. The Feroz Shah Kotla was established as a cricket ground in 1883. The first Test match at this venue was played on 10 November 1948 between India and West Indies. Anil Kumble had taken 10 wickets in an inning on this ground in 1999.
