Matters of Discretion: An Autobiography- I K Gujral
Former Indian prime minister I K Gujral released his autobiography, Matters of Discretion: An Autobiography in February 2011. In the book Gujral has penned down his life story in a forthright and candid manner. The book provides for an absorbing, authentic as well as definitive account of incidents which had profound impact on the nation.
The book gives a detail account of Gujral’s political journey in the country post partition. Gujral joined Congress Party and was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1964. He was the Information and Broadcasting Minister when emergency was imposed, which entailed arbitrary press censorship. He was however unceremoniously replaced and later sent by Indira Gandhi as India's ambassador to the USSR, a post he handled with commendable tact and finesse. He was the minister for external affairs under V P Singh (1989) and Deve Gowda (1996). Gujral reached the pinnacle of his career when he became the prime minister on 1997.
This autobiography, Matters of Discretion: An Autobiography provides a deep insight into the political scene as it unfolded after independence and talks about the roles played by a wide spectrum of politicians, bureaucrats, and many others.
