Green Pigs Created by Scientists

Green pigs or Enviropigs were created by Scientists to make them more fit for human consumption.

Green pigs or Enviropigs were created by Scientists in the first week of January 2011 to make them more fit for human consumption. Green pigs look and taste like normal pigs but were genetically modified by taking genes from mice and E.coli bacteria and inserted into their DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid). This will change the food processing inside the body of pigs, so that their manure will have less phosphorus than normal slurry and create less danger to rivers, lakes and streams. Unlike Normal pigs, Green pigs have been designed to produce their own phytase. Phytase is an enzyme which breaks down undigestible Phytic acid present in oil seeds and grains and releases digestible calcium, phosphorus and other nutrients.
